Facial palsy (facial droop)
The muscles of the face are innervated by a nerve (facial nerve) that sometimes stops functioning for a variety of reasons. This is often temporary and unexplained (Bell’s palsy), however, it is important to identify the small number of cases with explainable and treatable causes.
The eyelids are often affected and there are a variety of procedures that can be done to help protect the eye as the nerve (usually) heals. These have to be judged on an individual basis.
